Three Things Thursday – Snowstorms, CrossFit, and Wicked

1.     Twice this year we’ve been predicted to get about six inches of snow.  Both times they were wrong to the tune of approximately six inches.  We got our biggest snowstorm of the season this week.  See those three snowflakes on the shoulder of the road?

2.     I’ve always known I need to be doing some type of strength training in addition to running if I really want to see improvements and lose some fluff.  The thing is… I HATE STRENGTH TRAINING.   I’d rather run 10 miles than do 10 push-ups.  Because I hate it so much and because I don’t have anyone crawling up my ass to make me do it, I usually just don’t do it.  But now I’ve decided I hate being fluffy worse than I hate strength training, so I’ve joined a CrossFit gym.  The first month is what they call the “on-ramp” where they teach you proper technique and shit.  It’s mandatory before they let you join their regular classes.  The first class was Monday.  It was very elementary.  They really only showed us some equipment and went over some of the stuff they do as a warmup.  I missed the second class Tuesday night because the road the gym is on was closed due to flooding.  The third class will be tonight.

3.     My mother and sister and I went to Memphis to see Wicked on Sunday.  I’ve seen it once before, but it was just as good the second time around!

Another excuse to get dressed up!  I’m enjoying this!

A Wonderfully "Wicked" Weekend!

This past weekend me and Mom made a trip to Memphis to make good on my birthday present to her:  We went to see Wicked.

WOW.  Just… WOW.

We got down there a little early, so we walked to Beale St. to get some lunch and ended up at B.B. King’s.  If it hadn’t been for the show starting at 1:30, I could have stayed there all afternoon.  Nothing like a live band singin’ the blues!

We stayed and listened as long as we could, then we had to get up and run in the rain back to the Orpheum.

I just can’t say enough about this production.  I laughed, I cried, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, and I think I stopped breathing a time or two.  (For those of you who’ve seen it–Defying Gravity.)

No photography was allowed during the show (and I had a freaking usher standing right over my right shoulder for the whole thing, so I couldn’t even sneak one in), so I don’t have any pictures to share.  You’ll just have to see it for yourself.  And I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you see it for yourself!

I will never watch the Wizard of Oz the same way again!

Three Things Thursday – The Three W’s

Wicked, Wooly Worms, and (Robin) Williams, that is.

1.  For her birthday, I bought tickets for my mom and I to see Wicked in Memphis on 10/24.  I’ve heard great things about this production and I CAN’T WAIT to see it!

2.  I saw the first wooly worm of the season while I was running Tuesday.  I actually saw two that evening and one today.  All three of them were solid orange.  According to the old folks, that means we will have a mild winter.  I hope they’re right!  We had it pretty rough last year!

3.  Also while running Tuesday, my iPod threw some Robin Williams at me.  I had loaded it using the random setting, and it loaded the entire Robin Williams Live at the Met CD on it.  Guys, if you have never seen/heard this performance, do yourself a favor and GET ON IT!  It’s hilarious!  (Especially the golf skit at the end.)  I listened to it for a little bit but had to skip over it because the laughter was slowing me down.  Passersby surely thought I was on crack.

Hmmm…this was my 100th post.  I expected more fanfare.  Maybe some confetti or streamers across my monitor?  But, nope.  Nothing.
