SUCK IT, R&R VEGAS!!!

I’m more than a little bit worried/pissed right now.

I just checked my email and saw the Rock n Roll Vegas August newsletter.  At the very top of the newsletter is a big red exclamation point followed by a very important announcement.

They are implementing a new marathon time limit.  Five and a half hours.

When I registered, the time limit was seven hours.

GREAT JOB, RNR!!!!  How many other people did you dupe into registering under the pretense of a seven-hour finish??????

Everyone says, “Don’t set a time goal for your first marathon.”  Well, that just flies right out the window here, doesn’t it?

I’ve been HOPING (and training) for a sub-5hr finish, but realistically I know that may not happen.  LOTS of people don’t finish their first marathon in 5-1/2 hours.

But what’s a girl gonna do?  I’ll either get my medal or I won’t.  The only thing I can do is train my ass of between now and then and pray for the best.

***SIGH…***

  1. The time cutoff is a non factor. You will finish before the 5 1/2 hour cutoff. Judging from your Clarksville & CM 1/2 time, you will be just fine. Trust your training and have a good time!

  2. It's an easy course. I did it last year. Just pace yourself and you'll be fine. On thing to remember is the two bridges at the end of the course though. They killed my under 5 1/2 hours. I finished in 5:34. Watch the wind in LV. It can kill your time. It picks up as the day progresses. Temps are usually pretty cool so that's not a big deal. It was my first in 2008. Have fun!

  3. WOW. Just wow. I can't even imagine how many people are going to have issues with this. VERY shitty for them to change it mid stream.

At the end of the day, I KNOW that you can do it!!! Sub 5:30, here you come.

  4. This is definitely the shortest marathon time limit I've heard yet. Don't worry! You can do it!! Talk to others who have run this event in the past so you can be just an mentally prepared as you will be physically. 🙂

  5. That's really messed up. I always thought that was one of the good things about those huge races, is that they don't have the short cut-off times like some of the smaller local races. That's really messed up.

I think you've got this though. I hope this doesn't mess with you too much, you're going to do fantastic.

  6. Let me just confirm that a switch like that is beyond shitty. Really pretty low. But I'm 100% confident that you can finish is less than 5.5 hours. The McMillan race predictor tells me so, and he's pretty much always right.

  7. Ugh!! sorry to hear that!

(as for bait and switch, I registered for an out of state race, booked travel, and then a week or so ago I went to link the race site on my blog and they “pushed the race back a week.”
not only did I never receive an email, but the race director seems to not care that I had already booked airfare and had a confirmation for a week earlier…)

  8. That's really lame that they changed the time cutoff AFTER you registered!! 😦 BUT!! I know you can finish before the time limit!! You've still got a while to train, so just enjoy it! 😀

  9. I would imagine there are probably a lot of people bitching about this since it happened after being able to register. Maybe they'll implement at a later date? Either way, I think you can do it, but understand why it sucks to have the pressure.

  10. A lot of RnR races are unorganized and not figured out until the last minute, hence the change in the time limit. I learned this when the San Diego Track Club worked closely with RnR San Diego this year.

Don't worry girl, you will do it! I know you will!! Run your heart out 🙂

  11. Oh man! that is crazy! I got the news letter but didn't read it yet!! Well, the good news is that you have time to train and train properly and smart! I bet you can do a sub 5 1/2! Believe in yourself!!! First goal is to finish! Second goal is a sub 5.5! =)

  12. WHOA! that's a pretty short window to wrap up your first marathon!!!!!!! Are they kidding??? I think that's insane, esp when they can start opening up most of the streets once some of the last competitors cross the start line. Er, not very well explained, but I know you know what I mean, lol.

And, between you and me, I KNOW, you'll finish it in under 5 🙂
